Messianic Prophecies

by Chaia Kravitz

If you are wondering whether or not Yeshua is the Messiah, you don't have to look any further than the Tanach. Here is a look at only some of the Messianic Prophecies fulfilled by Yeshua.

The Jewish Bible, the Tanach, lists the critiera for the Jewish Messiah. It says how the Messiah will be born, what He will be expected to accomplish, how He will live, and how He will die.

In the Brit Chadesha, the (Re)New(ed) Covenenant, Yeshua fulfills many of these prophecies. Here is a look at just some of the prophecies that Yeshua fulfilled during his first time on earth. The statistical improbability of one person to fulfill this many prophecies is astounding, let alone the fact the He fulfilled many more than these!

Isaiah 7:14 - Matthew 1:23 - Messiah is born of a virgin:

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Genesis 12:3 - Galatians 3:8 - Messiah is of the seed of Abraham:

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

Genesis 49:10 - Hebrews 7:14 - Messiah is of the tribe of Judah:

The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

Psalm 110:1 - Romans 1:3 - Messiah is of the lineage of David:

The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

    Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

Micah 5:2 - Matthew 2:6 - Messiah is born at Bethlehem:

But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

Isaiah 61:1,2 - Luke 4:18,19 - Messiah is anointed of the Spirit:

    The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

Zechariah 9:9 - Matthew 21:4-5 - Messiah rides into Jerusalem on an ass:

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

Psalm 41:9 - John 13:18 - Messiah is betrayed by a friend:

Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.

I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.

Zechariah 11:12,13 - Matthew 26:15; 27:9-10 - Messiah is sold for 30 pieces of silver:

And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.

Matthew 26:15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

Matthew 27:9,10 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

Zechariah 13:7 - Matthew 26:31; 26:56 - Messiah is forsaken by his disciples:

The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah.

Matthew 26:31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. Matthew 26:56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

Psalm 22:16; 34:20 - John 19:36; 20:20; 20:25 - Messiah is pierced in hands and feet, but not a bone broken:

For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. Psalms 34:20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

John 19:36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

John 20:20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD.

John 20:25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

Psalm 69:21 - Matthew 27:34 - Messiah is given gall and vinegar to drink:

They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

Psalm 22:18 - Matthew 27:35 - Messiah's garments are parted and the casting of lots:

They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

Psalm 22:1 - Matthew 27:46 - Messiah is forsaken of God:

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Isaiah 53:9 - Matthew 27:57-60 - Messiah is buried with the rich:

And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

Psalm 16:8-11 - Acts 2:27 - Messiah will rise from the dead:

I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Psalm 68:18 - Ephesians 4:8 - Messiah will ascend on high

Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.

Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

Psalm 110:1 - Matthew 22:43-45 - Messiah will sit on the Father's right hand

The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
