Messianic Prophecies
by Chaia Kravitz
If you are wondering whether or not Yeshua is the Messiah, you don't have to look any further than the Tanach. Here is a look at only some of the Messianic Prophecies fulfilled by Yeshua. The Jewish Bible, the Tanach, lists the critiera for the Jewish Messiah. It says how the Messiah will be born, what He will be expected to accomplish, how He will live, and how He will die. In the Brit Chadesha, the (Re)New(ed) Covenenant, Yeshua fulfills many of these prophecies. Here is a look at just some of the prophecies that Yeshua fulfilled during his first time on earth. The statistical improbability of one person to fulfill this many prophecies is astounding, let alone the fact the He fulfilled many more than these!Isaiah 7:14 - Matthew 1:23 - Messiah is born of a virgin:
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Genesis 12:3 - Galatians 3:8 - Messiah is of the seed of Abraham:
And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. Genesis 49:10 - Hebrews 7:14 - Messiah is of the tribe of Judah:
For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. Psalm 110:1 - Romans 1:3 - Messiah is of the lineage of David: Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me. Matthew 26:15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. Matthew 27:9,10 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me. Matthew 26:31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. Matthew 26:56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. John 19:36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. John 20:20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD. John 20:25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? Copyright 2002
